I’m Shawna, the heart behind Rooted Photography & Studio. I’m a Portland photographer specializing in weddings and elopements, proposals and engagements, maternity, and self-love sessions.
I include digital and film photography in almost all of my sessions!
Photography has been part of my life for over a decade, and it has carried me through many seasons. I first began as a contracted photographer in Pennsylvania, focusing on empowering women through imagery. Later, I spent much of my 20s traveling as a freelance model, which shaped the way I see people, light, and authentic connection. Now rooted in Portland, Oregon, I’ve returned fully to photography while raising my beautiful daughter and building a life surrounded by community.
My approach is grounded in empathy, calmness, and authenticity. Whether I’m photographing a wedding, documenting the quiet beauty of a maternity session, or capturing the joy of an engagement, my goal is to create space for you to feel fully yourself. Every session is a collaboration where we move together with ease, allowing genuine moments to come to life in front of the lens.

our process:
I. Book the date.
Once a date is selected and a deposit is made, we look into locations. Inside? Outside? How far are you able to travel? Once the location is in place, we move forward with going over what specifics you are wanting from that shoot. Here we can be simple or dive into more of a creative process by sharing mood boards and outfit/prop ideas.
II. Take photos.
I arrive on location about 15 minutes before the shoot if I have been there before and 30 minutes if the location is new to me. Here I scoop out a few spots for us to shoot. Now it is time for the magic! I typically let more free flowing moments happen, but 100% will pose and move you if needed. I have almost eight years experience in front of the camera and am confident in finding what poses fit best. After your shoot, I show a little sneak peak on the back of the camera and then wrap up the day!
III. Deliver memories.
The gallery is delivered via link to your email with all the fully edited photos within four to six weeks during busy season. I also offer a hard drive if that is something you would like to add to your package.
